Cultural and administrative centre Ivančna Gorica
The new building housing the library and the cultural and municipality centre has three main programmes, which are expressed in the urban and architectural design by means of three separate volumes placed above the ground level – the library, the municipality and the event hall – with two clefts between them. The spatial organisation of the public ground floor in the shape of a diagonal plaza allows the lobbies to be oriented towards the plaza and establishes a strong and clear communication with the street space on the part of the public programme. The principle of the new building’s design references the waggoner taverns typical of the region featuring with a timber superstructure over a masonry ground floor and large eaves over the space for carts and horses. The base is thus materialised in glass and brick with stereotomic brick walls rising from the ground. The facade surfaces of the upper volumes feature a modular structure of timber girders. The timber construction system goes on to provide rhythm and proportion even in the interior spaces with a timber ceiling latticework and timber-frame walls.
