Science Center

Science Centre is designed as an open, transparent building. Taking advantage of the plot’s elevation characteristics, two ground floors are designed on two levels, towards the park and towards Barjanska Road. The lower ground floor is the base – a platform specifically responding to the perimeter situations. The base of the building is erected directly out of the park; on the roof, an entrance platform from Barjanska Road is designed to develop depth-wise as an arcade, linking Barjanska Road with Riharjeva Street. The solid base is a platform for a light, prefabricated, open, universal structure of the building above. The entire ground floor of Science Centre is an open space, open to the outside as well as inwardly for a wide range of content. The space is inviting: it is full of action, information, people, and diversity. The upper floors cantilever above the glassy ground floor. The timber structure of the first and second floors develops along both the vertical and the horizontal. The choice of the load-bearing structure enables universal adaptability of the spaces in the horizontal and vertical directions: within the structures, spaces may be freely subtracted or added.
