Izola Sheltered Housing

The Sheltered housing is located above the city of Izola, overlooking the city and the sea. The design follows two main ideas: the idea of common open outside corridor “gank” and the concept of Mediterranean building with entrances through a yard or a garden. Apartments are reached by a common outside corridor, which also features some space for a small private garden.  As well as being the means of communication between apartments and the courtyard, the corridor is also a public path between apartments and their garden balconies thus promoting social contacts. The opening and closing of outer corridors and gardens can be adapted to seasons and times of the day. Our design promotes the idea of urban theatre and supports cooperation, connections and help among the inhabitants, enriching their social life.
